Assisted Living Brooklyn Style gets better and better
There are many assisted living communities in Brooklyn. When I say communities, please don’t confuse these with a 55 plus community, as they are very different. Many of the assisted living homes in Brooklyn, referred to as communities are somewhat vertical in structure. Some have 4 plus floor. Some of these communities have entire floors devoted to help residents who might need help in what we refer to in the industry as memory care setting.
Memory care in an assisted living will usually have more staffing per resident, due to the additional needs of those clients. Memory care as one can imagine is much more expensive. A basic plan in most assisted living communities would usually include, meals 3x a day, laundry and house keeping services. The more abilities of daily living a person needs help with the higher the cost of care will be.
Assisted Living Brooklyn vs Home Care
Medications should be dispensed by a nurse or perhaps a family member. A home care attendant usually doesn’t have the training for medications, unless they have additional licensing that would permit it. In an assisted living community medications are dispensed by a nurse. Medications are tracked with computer software. If a resident needs to go to a hospital or an outside doctors office the nurse at their community can
In a community there are multiple Aides. If one doesn’t show up there are usually several who can be called in. However, because there are many Aides on the staff, there is always some type of supervision. In an individual home setting if the Aide doesn’t show up and there is a gap in service, there could be a safety issue. Some folks have Aides that are more of a companion because the person doesn’t have a need for a higher level of care. They may have an Aide just because they’re lonely. In the home care industry there are companions and there are Aides and sometimes someone might even hire a nurse as the care taker for a certain amount of houses. Yikes, lots to think about.
Assisted Living Brooklyn Medicaid
Most assisted living communities do not accept Medicaid home care benefits. They’re private pay, paid for by long term care insurance or perhaps a few dollars from veterans benefits for care. There’s a lot to figure out.
Let’s look a little further at Veterans benefits. VA benefits for care and services for veterans with dementia is provided through the VA Aid and Attendance program. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is where veterans should look to get help.
To qualify for Aid and Attendance , a there are certain requirements, as is the case with just about any program In this case………..
There needs to be a lack of ability to perform activities of daily living, ADLs. A person with a mental or physical disability might require extensive care. Additionally if a person is bedridden they might qualify. The other requirement is you must be a veteran or the spouse of a veteran and be at least 65 years of age and or permanently disabled.
To qualify for Aid and Attendance, a senior must meet one of the following requirements:
